The Two Types of Music

Since music has been called the Language of Love, I'm always striving to learn more about it. Over thousands of hours spent listening to music, I've gradually become aware of two types of music. Knowing about this distinction will greatly help anyone searching to expand their music horizons. Of course, just by reading GlowingFaceMan.com long enough, you'll magically attract all the best music in the world to you (as well as everything else your heart desires). Meanwhile let's learn the two-music classification for music you obtain by more normal means.

I'm certain you've found songs which immediately clicked with you, songs you fell in love with instantly. It's like love-at-first-sight, except it's more like love at first hearing. Well, if you watch music videos, maybe it's just love at first experience.

All too often, when we find one of these love-at-first-listen songs. We go through an intense honeymoon with it. Listening to it repeatedly, in heaven in the gorgeous melody and harmony. But this is usually a short lived honeymoon. We burn ourselves out on the song, and after several dozen listenings, the song's beauty wanes. It becomes old and worn to our ear. A tragic parting with beauty. It's happened all too often to all of us.

I'm also certain you've found songs which seemed plain, even un-beautiful at first. But you gave them a chance, possibly forced by circumstances. Gradually they grew upon you. Like a seed planted deep, their beauty was hidden through many long seasons. And grew slow. At length the song's beauty finally blossomed, and after many listenings, like a tried-and-true old friend, the music became sublime and wonderful.

These are The Two Types of Music. One burns fierce and bright and burns out fast. The other is like a tree, long remaining a sapling, growing after great time into a mighty looming bark with roots delving into the arteries of the world.

The former music is called Fire Music. And the latter music is called Water Music. The one blazes gloriously as it devours itself. The other harbors the very origin of life, it is incompressible and invincible, yet its sheer physical power is weak.

A piece of music can have parts of both types. This is why it's important to listen to the whole song, not skip ahead to the good parts. A place where the two types of music can often be found mixed very well together. Is the Megamix. The word "Megamix" stands for "mega remix". A Megamix is a very long piece of music made up of many shorter songs played together. They're usually created by DJs, and some DJs are highly skilled at this craft. Megamixes are a great way to expand your music taste: a megamix will contain Fire Music to make it fun to listen initially, and Water Music to which you'll eventually fall in love. So that when the Fire Music parts burn out and become tired to you, the Water Music parts will have matured and the Megamix will retain its beauty.

WHY DO THE TWO TYPES OF MUSIC EXIST??

It has to do with the wiring of the human brain. A song is not inherently Fire or Water music. It's in the ear of the beholder. What may be Fire Music to me, may be Water Music to you.

Every time you listen to a song, it alters your brain, wearing paths in your neuro networks.

A Fire Song is one which matches the paths that are already worn deep in your mind. You take great pleasure in this song because it's as if it's already a part of you. You feel like you could've composed it yourself. It's immediately familiar. However, it does little to change your brain, thus it ages very fast and gets old.

A Water Song is one which traverses paths in your brain that are not deeply worn. It's a trailblazing song, delving into the primeval jungles of your mind. Because it's somehow truly new and unique compared to what you've listened to before. Since the neuro pathways are so untried, your mind initially puts up resistance and you are blind to the song's beauty. But eventually the song breaks your mind in. And then since the paths are new and fresh, your mind strengthens and you revel in the deep beauty of the music.

SIMILAR PHENOMENON IN OTHER AREAS

Now that you understand the theory underlying the Two Types of Music, you can see how it can exist in other areas. Literature, for example. Read a book which is in the same genre and style as all the other books you've read. And you'll gain nothing, it's like eating fast food, it is pleasureful initially but has no rereading value, and adds little new wisdom to you. But struggle through a book unlike ones you've read before. At first it'll be a difficult slog. In the end you'll recognize new virgin beauty all throughout. And your mind will be expanded.

The same thing happens with movies. Say there's a genre you don't like, though to be honest you haven't watched much of it. If you watched some more of it, with an open mind, it would grow on you and you'd gradually understand why other people like it so much. Your mind would be expanded and the movies would become very enjoyable to you.

It's important to always force ourselves to experience those things which our minds resist initially. This is how we learn and grow. Someone who was constantly doing this and never repeating the old, would have eternal youth.

Let's explore and discover the slow-appreciated Water Things of the world together. As our minds grow our faces will Glow.
