Brief Update from Japan

Readers, Im just writing to let you know why I havent updated this website in awhile. Since July 24, Ive been exploring Japan. Ill be returning to the States on August 19th, and at that time Ive got a shitload of cool stuff Im gonna write about here. Travelling has really opened my eyes to a lot of things, I feel like Ive grown a few sizes bigger over the past couple weeks.

When I get back Im gonna write all about the trip here, with generous pictures as well as the insightful GlowingFace commentary youve come to love so well. In particular, youve gotta hear what I have to say about cultural differences... clubbing differences... habits that U.S. citizens have before they travel... the magical wonderful world of youth hostels... rooftop exploring in Osaka... my new principle of communication for English-speaking travellers.. oh and how could I forget, the crazy Japanese cult I toured (one of those things youve gotta know a little of the native language to do, not something most tourists have done).

Im also gonna use my return to the States as a kind of personal New Years. Of course, Ive always believed New Years Resolutions should be something you can do every day of the year. But the long absense from the States marks a unique opportunity to radically transform myself (...yeah. again.) Im gonna up my workout regime to working out every day of the week. Im gonna do the `thirty day clubbing challenge` to learn more about social interaction (the challenge is this: go out SOLO every night for thirty days and just make friends with total strangers and brighten their lives a little). Im gonna take up volleyball so I can join the games which go around the clock on OSU campus. I might do volunteer campaign work for one of the parties, since elections are coming up in the States. And Ive decided, in addition to continuing Japanese classes, Im gonna audit three additional language classes this next quarter. German, French, and Spanish. This serves several purposes. It contributes directly to my goal to learn every language in the world. It will aid me in further travels (next Summer Im gonna backpack all over Europe). Itll let me meet a broad selection of incoming freshmen (since its the first quarter of the year) (tip to grad students and seniors: never limit your pool of friends just because youve reached a certain year yourself. Paul Erdos used to say, you die the day you have more dead friends than live friends). And itll let me test all the high-powered language-learning technology Ive discovered from studying the ultra-hard language, Japanese. Basically, applying the Japanese-strength tools, I should be able to learn German, French and Spanish extremely easily and well. (For purpose of full disclosure: I did study a little German and Spanish in the past, but it was years ago and I neglected it and let it fade away).

Thats all for now. While Im away, I charge all my readers with the task of lighting up the world with your own glowing faces. As they say here in Japan: Gambatte!
