I just recently hosted (and my girlfriend co-hosted) my first party. That's a pretty big deal for me, since hosting parties is not something I was accustomed to most of my life. I didn't have many friends growing up (although the friendships I did have tended to be very deep). Being homeschooled for everything except 6th, 7th, and 9th grade, that ruled out the biggest pool of potential guests during my formative years. In my adult days, in the Air Force and then in university, I had more friends, but I didn't start drinking until I was 22 years old. Not that I had anything against drinking, it's just that alcohol was totally missing throughout my early years, so it wasn't "in my reality". Anyway I was a social retard until I decided to do something with my lovelife and joined the seduction community.
We made the mistake of throwing the party too far into finals week (the Friday of finals week). By then, a lot of invitees had left Columbus on Spring Vacation alfready (Columbus Ohio is hardly a dream vacation destination). So, not as many people showed up as we would've liked. Somewhere around fifteen partiers showed up in all, about evenly split between my guests and my girlfriend's. We ended up with a lot of beer and wine and snacks left over. Of course there's no such thing as too much alcohol in the fridge ;)
What I really liked about partyhosting was seeing people mingle and new friendships form between those who previously had never met each other. Guests discovered common interests with one another and connections were established.
I want to start doing more of these events in the future. Although I was socially stunted for a lot of my life, I really do enjoy hanging out with everyone, socializing, making new friends, and so on. I want to become a better partymaster and really show everyone a great time.
If you've never thrown a get-together with your buddies, I really encourage you to try it out. I was worried that it wouldn't be very well-received or something. My girlfriend and I have a pretty Spartan house still. No couch, no TV, no bluray or Wii, only four chairs (six if you count the ones in the bedrooms). I was nervous, to say the least. But it turned out fine. Next time, we'll hold it when more students are in town, and get more visitors to come. Partyhosting is a great way to spend time working on your relationships and social skills. I'm glad I did it.
